Remains
Remains is a collection of collections of all that remains. Boxes of mat board offcuts, colour test strips, scrap papers, unwanted paintings, scribbles and leftover paint. These are a few of my favourite things—the things that collages are made of.
Collage is my go-to medium for playful exploration of line, shape, colour and pattern. Cut and tear, place and paste—scissors, fingers and glue are the stuff of creative childhood memories. They represent the joy of unfettered expression. The works in Remains embody my ongoing fascination with composition—how does synergistic complexity arise from the mindless, meditative arrangement of simple things? The title of each of these works is a phrase extracted from chapter 3 (Form) of Art and Visual Perception – A Psychology of the Creative Eye, by Rudolf Arnheim. |
