Snapshots
It is said that we meet people for a reason, a season or a lifetime. It seems many people encounter Salt Spring Island in the same way. Some people come here to escape the urban rat race or to invest in a restful retirement. Others are drawn to a join a creative community of visual artists, artisans, writers, musicians and performers. Many people come here to heal—their bodies, their hearts, their souls, their minds. Some pine away their lives—others come and go with the inevitable tides.
Snapshots is a series of glimpses of Salt Spring Island’s urban places—building façades mask the spaces where people eat, sleep, work, play, talk, love, become, betray… The series title reflects the cropping of imagery in each work and the small canvas size (6 inches square). The original 35mm contact print is collaged to each painting. |
