Book Marks
Book Marks is a body of work executed on disassembled book pages. A synthesis of text and image, these works explore the look, the definition, the meaning, the metaphor—contained in words, phrases, pages and chapters. I love reading and researching, learning and investigating—books in libraries, articles in magazines, blogs on websites. Because I have worked as a graphic designer, I am attracted to the beauty of letters, their shapes shifted through the styling of fonts and faces.
What is a Book Mark? We read and pause to sleep or contemplate, our place held by a length of ribbon, a scrap of paper, a folded corner. We take |
note, with scribbles in margins, bookmarks in browsers, content cut and pasted elsewhere, to be revisited, later.
Book Marks currently comprises The Resurrection of Dead Letters, two series of works executed on pages from an old typing manual--Dead Letters and Post Marks. In progress is a series of works on dictionary pages exploring the concept of a definition as well as a series in redacted text on the pages of a DIY home handyman manual. |
